Rehab Associates of Central Virginia Reduces Privacy and Compliance Costs with MOAT

By: Awareity
On: February 15, 2011

Lynchburg, VA – Rehab Associates of Central Virginia (RACV) is proactively targeting escalating obligations and
rising costs associated with information privacy, compliance, employment, risk management and security across
multiple locations with Awareity’s award‐winning MOAT (Managed Ongoing Awareness and Trust) tools.

What started out in 1966 as a small physical therapy practice, RACV has evolved into a thriving group of nine
strategically located practices throughout Central Virginia. ITGS Consulting (a member of Awareity’s Strategic
Alliance Program) and RACV’s management recognized that success in the 21st century depends on all employees
(and third‐parties) understanding their individual roles and responsibilities. MOAT’s web‐based tools empower
RACV’s managers to upload organization‐specific training presentations, case studies, policies, procedures, plans,
roles, checklists, guidelines, etc. into a secure Awareness Vault and share documents with appropriate personnel
on an ongoing basis and in real‐time as updates and changes are made. RACV’s management knows that risks are
constantly changing, and it is critical for employees to receive ongoing situational awareness, customized training, policy updates and reminders throughout the year, as once a year training approaches are not keeping up.

By utilizing MOAT, RACV is multiplying their cost savings across multiple departments by reducing lost productivity
and travel time, while also improving audit‐ready and legal‐ready documentation for:

‐ Regulatory Compliance
‐ Human Resources
‐ Legal Due Diligence
‐ Business Continuity
‐ Medicare Manuals (for PTs/PTAs/Billing)
‐ Safety and Security
‐ Information Security/Privacy
‐ Employee Handbooks

RACV implemented MOAT on November 1 and within one month; over 90% of personnel had completed their
individual awareness requirements and certification.
All individual certifications are automatically tracked and
documented, and administrators have access to on‐demand progress reporting and preparedness metrics.
MOAT also provides RACV access to Awareity’s new TIPS (Threat Assessment, Incident Management and
Prevention Services). TIPS empowers employees and third‐parties to confidentially report incidents (bullying,
workplace violence, breaches, employment issues, ethical issues, etc.). Workplace violence is an increasing
concern for health care organizations and TIPS can prevent expensive and tragic incidents from occurring.
